Outreach

At Knox the whole congregation pitches in to help those in our community who may be less fortunate or need care and support.

Using money donated by the congregation or raised through fund-raising projects, Knox helps fund local community outreach programs such as the Ottawa West End Community Chaplaincy ministering to low income neighborhoods; FAMSAC, Pinecrest Terrace, Foster Farm and Morrison Gardens food banks; Centre 507, a Bank Street drop-in and food centre; the exam-time Pause Table at Algonquin College; and many others.  We are active supporters of Multifaith Housing Initiative, and Refuge NOW, a refugee program run by a number of community and church partners.  In addition, Knox supports many outreach programs delivered by the United Church of Canada through donations directed to the UCC Mission and Service Fund.

Even small things can make a very big difference.  Our members donate and collect food items for FAMSAC and provide empty egg cartons for use by the Pinecrest Terrace food cupboard. Members of the congregation participate in volunteer efforts such as packing and delivering Christmas hampers. We provide support for a monthly church service at the Extendicare Medex long-term care facility. We collect toys for Toy Mountain and we donate winter clothing to Centre 507 on Bank Street. By acting on our beliefs and making the teachings of Jesus a reality every day, we strive to make a difference and build a better community around us.
